There are currently nine specialty boards:

 

Functions of a specialty board

The specialty boards advise Council through the censor-in-chief on the following:

  • curriculum, content and duration of training
  • accreditation and content of training programs including integration between programs and with overseas posts and the inspection of posts
  • selection of Trainees
  • eligibility of Trainees to present for the Fellowship Examination
  • assessment of satisfactory completion of training
  • provision of information to maintain a register of Trainees
  • maintenance of surgical standards in each specialty's training program.
