Training post accreditation

The aim of the Surgical Education and Training (SET) program is to ensure trainees progress through an integrated program which provides them with increasing professional responsibility under appropriate supervision. The College approves training posts that enable trainees to acquire the  competencies needed to become consultant surgeons, able to practice independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Since 2005 the College has published "Accreditation of Hospitals and Posts for Surgical Education and Training" booklet, which details the process and criteria for accreditation. The current version of the booklet was released in November 2008.

From 2009 a fee will be payable by hospitals seeking the accreditation of new posts and the reaccreditation of existing posts. The fees are:

Accreditation of New Posts  $6000 (plus GST)
Reaccreditation of Existing Posts  $3000 (plus GST)
Document-based assessments  $1500 (plus GST)
