Orthopaedic Surgery New Zealand
In 2008 twenty-two (22) trainees were appointed into the SET Program
to commence in 2009
In 2009 thirteen (13) trainees were appointed into the SET Program to
commence in 2010
2010 SET Selection Specialty Specific Eligibility Requirements
The following is a list of selection tools and their contributions to
the overall score:

Successful Progression to Interview
The Board has set the minimum eligibility criteria for progression to
interview as follows:
- Applicants must have a combined overall percentage score of 35% or
more on completion of the Structured Online Curriculum Vitae and
Structured Online Referee Reports

Structured Online Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- CV will score information on, and require documented evidence
for:
- Surgical and Medical experience
- Research Projects
- Other qualifications (degrees, masters, PhD, FRACS, etc)
- Publications
- Presentations (Regional, National and International)
- Skills Courses and Scientific Meetings
- Non-Medical Achievements
- No additional CV information will be accepted from
applications.
Structured Online Referee Reports
Applicants must provide current contact details, including a
valid e-mail address for a minimum of five (5) referees and a maximum of
six (6) referees
- Who can qualify as a referee?
- What is the time period from which a referee will be considered
valid?
- Referees must be from within the last two (2) years
- How many referees can be provided from a particular
rotation?
- A maximum of three (3) referees can be provided from any particular
rotation
- How are referees selected?
- The applicant nominated three (3) referees
- The Board will select a further two (2) referees
- How are the Structured Online Referee Reports collected and
scored?
- The Board will send an online structured referee report to five (5)
listed referees
- The score consists of an average of all five (5) referee
reports
Semi-structured Interview
Date of interviews: 25 June 2010
Date invitations to interview sent: 28 May 2010
- The interviews for New Zealand applicants will be held at a single
location
- The format of the interviews will be as follows:
- Six (6) interview panels
- Three (3) interviewers per panel
- Three (3) to Four (4) questions per panel
- Each of the six (6) panel interviews will last approximately ten
(10) minutes
- Applicants invited to interview will be required to provide
identification
Announcement of Offers
Announcement of Offers to successful applicants will be made
on: 28 June 2010
Feedback to both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be in
accordance with Selection to Surgical Education and Training Policy.
- Rotations must have been completed within the validity period
specified
- An accepted Orthopaedic Surgery rotation is post graduate experience
of 12 week minimum duration under the supervision of an appropriately
qualified clinician
- HDU/ICU experience could include Cardiothoracic Unit, Burns Unit,
Spinal Unit, Vascular Unit or busy General Acute Surgery Unit. An
accepted clinical rotation is of a minimum 8 weeks duration under the
supervision of an appropriately qualified clinician - (surgeon,
anaesthetist or intensivist)
