Colon and Rectal Surgery

Purpose

The Colon and Rectal Surgery Section encourages training and research in colon and rectal surgery. The high standard of surgical expertise in colorectal surgery is fostered and maintained through a close working relationship with the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ).

The College training program for the specialty is a collaboration between the Section of Colorectal Surgery and the CSSANZ, and has been since colorectal surgery was established as a sub-specialty.

Achievements

The Killingback Prize is awarded annually for the best scientific paper presented by a Younger Fellow or Trainee at the Annual Scientific Congress (ASC) on an area related to colorectal surgery. The prize allows for travel (return airfare, meeting registration, and accommodation) to present the winning paper at the meeting of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) the following year.
