Scholarships, Grants and Awards for rural surgeons and trainees

The following list contains details of the various scholarships and awards available to Fellows and Trainees. Some of these are particularly designed for non-metropolitan surgeons and rural trainees. You are encouraged to obtain details of the awards and to put in your applications and nominations.

Your attention is drawn particularly to:

• Rural Surgeons Award

For services to rural surgery and rural communities. Nominations are invited each year and the award is made at the annual meeting of Provincial Surgeons Australia, the College ASC or the New Zealand Association of General Surgeons. There is no monetary value attached to this award. Nominations for 2007 are invited by Rural Services , phone +61-3-9276 7407.

Rural Surgeons Award

• Ramsay Fellowship for Provincial Surgeons, for travel to a major centre in Australia or New Zealand to undergo further training

Ramsay Fellowship for Provincial Surgeons

• The RACS Foundation Peter King Scholarship, for Fellows or Trainees enrolled in or intending to enrol in a higher degree with the topic relevant to the practice of surgery outside of metropolitan areas of Australia or New Zealand.
