What does the Department of Professional Development do? The Department of Professional Development is responsible for the development, co-ordination and administration of Professional Development activities to service primarily post-Fellowship educational needs. PD activities are aligned with the following non-clinical RACS competencies:

How can I find out about the Professional Development schedule and content? Professional Development activities and workshops are conducted throughout the year, from February to November, at various locations in Australia and New Zealand. Workshops vary in duration from two hours to three days. Please contact the Department for an up-to-date workshop schedule. For details on all our activities visit the rest of the website or contact the Department of Professional Development for further information. How do I register for Professional Development activities? Registration forms for all our workshops are available for
downloading within each of the workshop webpages. Hard copies
are also available by contacting the Department of Professional
Development. Completed registration forms may be returned by email
as a scanned PDF, via post or facsimile. Which payment options are available for Professional Development activities? Payment options are listed online or on the registration forms. These include requesting an invoice, enclosing a cheque or money order, or paying by credit card. Cards accepted are American Express, Diners Club, Visa, Mastercard and AMEX. All participants will receive a tax invoice and receipt. If I cancel my workshop registration, will I receive a full refund? In the unlikely event that insufficient registrations are received to make an activity viable or the date or location of a professional development activity is changed the College takes no responsibility for additional individual costs incurred as a result. Please note that registrations are not confirmed until payment has been processed. If a participant cancels their place in a workshop the following conditions apply: - For cancellations between two and four weeks before the workshop, participants are eligible for a 50% refund. - There are no refunds for cancellations less than two weeks before the workshop. However, at the discretion of the Professional Development Manager, registrants may be offered a refund or given the opportunity to transfer to another relevant professional development activity. Consideration will be given to circumstances of a medical or compassionate nature. Will I be photographed while at a Professional Development workshop? Professional Development events may be photographed for promotional purposes. Testimonials may also be sourced from willing participants for use on the College website and in other promotional media. Are activities conducted by the Department of Professional Development approved in the RACS Continuing Professional Development Program? Most Professional Development activities have been developed for active Fellows of the College, and as such are approved for points in the College CPD Program. The content and learning methods vary between workshops – please see information on the individual workshops to confirm the points accrued by attendance. All participants are provided with a Certification of Attendance at the conclusion of each workshop, which details the CPD point value. How does the Department of Professional Development fit within the College management and governance structure? Management The Department of Professional Development sits within the Division of Fellowship and Standards. The Division of Fellowship and Standards also encompasses Professional Standards, Fellowship Services and Library and Web Services. Governance The Department of Professional Development is overseen by the Professional Development Committee, which has representation from College Council and Professional Development and Standards Board (PDSB) and the Committees in its portfolio, as well as a College Councillor in the role of Chair. The PDSB encompasses the three Divisions within the fellowship portfolio: Fellowship and Standards, Research and Audit and External Affairs.
