Brian Johnston is the Chief Executive of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards having been a surveyor for a number of years and a member of the Standards Committee for six years. He has graduate qualifications in health administration from the University of New South Wales and public administration from the NSW Institute of Technology (now the University of Technology, Sydney). He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and an Associate Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Executives.

Brian's professional career has been in the health industry and has included experience at both departmental and senior health service management levels. Since 1977 he has mainly been involved in the operational management of public health services and facilities, particularly teaching and referral services. He is a National Councillor and Treasurer of the Australian Healthcare Association.
