The College functions and delivers its services at a bi-national, national and state level. The Regional/National offices of the College are responsible for a range of activities on behalf of the College.

State Committees and the New Zealand National Board were appointed by Council in 1927 and their duties were to arrange regionally based scientific meetings, to advise Council on regional matters about breaches of the rules, and to perform other tasks that might be ‘delegated’ by Council.  These Committees are a focal point for delivering College policy and programs to the surgeons and trainees based in their region.

The State Committees and NZ National Board are supported in each state and NZ by a Regional Office.  They play a vital role as part of the College by:

  • communicating the decisions of Council to local members,
  • providing educational opportunities to local trainees and Fellows,
  • providing advice to Council on local issues,
  • assuming responsibility for local issues and if necessary providing recommendations to Council and,
  • administering selection and training on behalf of head office.

Each of the regional offices and the College Skills Centre based in Melbourne have facilities available for Fellows and Trainees.  Some facilities are also available for external hire.  360° virtual tours of the College faculties in Melbourne, Wellington, Sydney, Adelaide and Canberra are available.  Tours of Brisbane, Perth and Tasmania will be available soon.  For further information about these facilities, please contact the College reception in your area.

The State Committees /NZ National Board meet as required by the Chair but no less frequently than once in each quarter.   Each Committee/Board holds an Annual General Meeting and Fellows and trainees are encouraged to attend.

Details of activities in each region, the membership of their regional committees and other information of use and interest is provided on each region’s web page (click the appropriate regional link on the left hand menu to access this information).
