Regions

You are here:

The College functions and delivers its services at a bi-national, national and state level. Its regional/national offices are responsible for a range of activities on behalf of the College.

Each office plays a vital role as part of the College by:

  • communicating the decisions of Council to the region's members
  • improving integration among all the regional areas of the College
  • providing regional educational opportunities to local Trainees and Fellows
  • providing advice to Council on regional issues
  • assuming responsibility for regional issues and if necessary providing recommendations to Council
  • working with the NZ, state and territory governments on health public policy matters relevant to Fellows and Trainees in the region
  • administering selection and training on behalf of head office.

Access each region's page for local activities and other information of use and interest:

Committees

Regional committees and the New Zealand National Board were appointed by Council in 1927 with these duties:

  • arrange regionally-based scientific meetings
  • advise Council on regional matters about breaches of the rules
  • perform other tasks that might be delegated by Council.

These committees are:

  • a focal point for delivering College policy and programs to the surgeons and Trainees based in their region
  • supported in each state or territory and New Zealand by a regional office.
