The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons takes a leadership
role in surgical research. Research and audit activities, as well
as the Logbooks application, are conducted through
the Research, Audit and Academic Surgery Division of the
College.

| The Australian Safety and Efficacy Register
of New Interventional Procedures - Surgical (ASERNIP-S) provides
quality and timely assessments of new and emerging surgical
technologies and techniques. |
| Audits of Surgical Mortality |
| The Australian and New Zealand Audits of
Surgical Mortality (ANZASM) provides central oversight for each of
the Australian state-based and New Zealand audits of
mortality. |

| Morbidity Audits |
| The Morbidity Audits department manages a
number of clinical audits for surgeons. |

|
| Simulated Surgical Skills Program |
| The Simulated Surgical Skills Program
(SSSP) is a research program charged with the development,
implementation and assessment of a new laparoscopic surgical skills
training curriculum. |
| Scholarship Program |
| Research is also undertaken through the
scholarship program, under the umbrella of the Foundation for
Surgery, which offers more than $1 million annually to the most
academic and able surgical Trainees and Fellows, funding research
that leads to better patient outcomes and care. |

| Morbidity Audit and Logbook Tool |
| The College has developed a Morbidity Audit
and Logbook Tool (MALT), a secure online portal that facilitates
logbook data entry and audit for Trainees and Fellows undertaking
sub-specialisation. Fellows also have access to MALT as supervisors
of Trainees. |
