Examinations Officer
Examinations Department

Overview
The Examinations Officer is responsible for the coordination of examinations for the Surgical Education and Training (SET) program.

Primary Objective
To assist the Manager, Examinations Department by ensuring the provision of efficient and effective coordination and administration of examinations for the Surgical Education and Training (SET) program.

The key areas of responsibility are:

  • Coordination and administration of the Fellowship and specialty examinations including processing applications, producing candidate lists, preparing examiner's folders, ensuring venues, catering and accommodation has been booked 
  • Prepare and dispatch examination material
  • Preparing agendas and taking minutes as required
  • Prepare letters and file summaries as required
  • Ensure excellent client relations and communications
  • Invigilating at local specialty examinations as required

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience and skills:

  • Relevant post-secondary education such as diploma or degree; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Substantial administration experience within a complex, professional office environment.
  • Experience in coordination or management of events
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise a diverse workload and multi-task
  • Ability to manage conflicting deadlines and to work under pressure efficiently
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy

Clinical Director
IMG Assessments 

  • Melbourne CBD Location
  • Part-time - 0.4 FTE
  • 3-year contract
  • Salary package in accordance with AMA Fractional Specialist Rates

Overview
The Clinical Director, International Medical Graduate (IMG) Assessments is responsible for the process of assessing International Medical Graduates for comparability to an Australian and New Zealand trained surgeon.  Conducting document based assessments of all IMGs, the Clinical Director also participates in Assessment Interviews.  The Clinical Director advises Board Chairs, IMG Representatives and Clinical Assessors and Fellows on the process of assessing IMGs in the workplace, with particular emphasis on the management of underperforming IMGs.

Primary Objective
To ensure that the College abides by its policies and procedures in the management of IMG Assessments, and to ensure that College standards of performance are the basis of assessing IMGs.

The key areas of responsibility are: 

  • Assess documentation for evidence of comparability of an IMG to an ANZ surgeon and participate in assessment interviews for IMGs
  • Advise Specialty Board Chairs and IMG representatives on clinical assessment issues, including post approval and approval of assessors
  • Liaise with Boards, supervisors and IMGs to assist in the management of unsatisfactory performing IMGs, including the development of remedial plans
  • Participation in assessment reviews

The ideal candidate will possess at a minimum the following qualifications, experience and skills: 

  • Fellow of the College
  • Experience in a medical administration role
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment of medical practitioners
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising and negotiating with a wide range of professional stakeholders including government jurisdictions at all levels, both internally and externally to the organisation
  • Knowledge of the College's standards for the attainment of Fellowship

Manager, Examinations

Overview
The College of Surgeons conducts surgical education and assessment in Australia and New Zealand for both trainees and International Medical Graduates. The objective of the speciality training programs is to prepare trainee surgeons for independent clinical practice.  Trainees are required to successfully complete examinations for all specialties in surgical science and/or basic science examinations and the Clinical Examination (OSCE format) to progress through the training program and prior to the Fellowship Examination. Following successful completion of the Fellowship Examination and clinical experience, a trainee is awarded Fellowship of the College. 

Primary Objective
The manager is responsible for the conduct of the examinations of the College and management of the Examinations Department. The incumbent is required to be a point of reference for the examinations, to have a deep knowledge of the examination process and a broad understanding of the interactions between examinations, the training programs and the varied stakeholders involved in assessment and training.  

Acknowledging the complexity of some examinations and the involvement of numerous stakeholders, the Manager is responsible for developing good communication networks, including resolution of conflict and problem solving issues which arise.  Additionally, the manager provides advice and technical assistance to the governance bodies to ensure that assessment is aligned with best practice in education measurement and fulfils accreditation requirements. 

 The key areas of responsibility are:

  • Overall responsibility for the conduct of the examinations with specific responsibility for key tasks such as exam timetables, examination security and management of results.
  • Managing the varied stakeholders, including conflict resolution and problem solving
  • Providing advice and support to the Court of Examiners and the SSECE Committee
  • Managing correspondence and reports generated from the Chair Court Examiners and Chair, SSECE Committee
  • Preparing and  implementing the examinations budgets, including monitoring and control of expenditure against budget
  • Staffing management including recruitment/resourcing, performance management, mentoring and training

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience and skills:

  • Possession of an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as education, health, or business
  • Experience in a management role with supervision of a small team
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising and negotiating with a wide range of people at all levels, both internal and external to the organisation
  • Experience in managing/coordinating large scale events and complex timetables
  • High level of customer focus and quality service delivery
  • Understanding of project management fundamentals

Project Manager
South Australian Audit of Perioperative Mortality (SAAPM)

  • North Adelaide Location
  • Full time - 1.0 FTE

Overview
The Australia and New Zealand Audit of Surgical Mortality (ANZASM) is the framework of regionally based mortality audits designed to provide an external peer review of surgically related deaths.  Through the process of audit, the analysis of collected data may potentially  identify clinical events, system and process errors and trends which may impact upon the saftey and quality of surgical care.

Duties
The Project Manager will work closely with the Clinical Director to oversee the successful implementation of this project established in 2005 and governed by the Research,Audit and Academic Surgery Division. SAAPM is part of a national framework of audits,the Australian & New Zealand Audit of Surgical Mortality (ANZASM). This position requires liaison with SA-based surgeons,hospitals and the SA Department of Health. 

Primary Objective
The primary objective of this role is to lead and develop the audit process for South Australia. This includes providing de-identified reports that afford opportunity for evaluating current deficits in clinical practices and hospital systems,and using best practice approaches,to improve outcomes for patients. Duties will also include educating key stakeholders about the audit process and data collection and analysis

The key areas of responsibility are

  • Management of a clinical database
  • Management of SAAPM project staff
  • Data analysis and reporting of audit findings to various stakeholders
  • Management of project budget and contract deliverables

 The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience and skills

  • Experience in medical-based research
  • Experience in participating in health research implementation including performance monitoring and quality improvement activities.
  • Experience in analysing data and report generation.
  • Experience in project budget processes (includes budget forecasts and analysing budget variances).
  • Understanding of anatomy and medical terminology and procedures
