The College is actively developing and delivering solutions to surgical challenges in remote and regional Australia and New Zealand. Challenges like workforce recruitment, retention and professional development in a rural context are important to the College.

The Rural Surgery Section is dedicated to serving the interests of surgeons who practise outside the metropolitan areas of Australia and New Zealand. Its aim is to assist in the provision of surgical care of the highest standard to the people of regional, rural and remote Australia and New Zealand.The Rural Surgery Section is open to all Fellows with a stake or interest in this area.

Rural Surgeons Award - The Rural Surgeons Award is given for services to rural surgery and rural communities. Nominations are invited each year, and the award is made at the annual meeting of Provincial Surgeons of Australia (PSA), the College Annual Scientific Congress or the New Zealand Association of General Surgeons.

Advice and input into various College position papers such as Farm Injury, Quad Bikes, Gun Control, the Use of Chainsaws and GP Procedural Surgical Training.
