Information on Fellowship Examination dates and locations.

  • 2023 Clinical/Viva Information

The Fellowship Examination is usually undertaken over several days twice a year; in April/May and August/September. The written component is conducted four to five weeks prior to the clinical/viva components and can be sat in a choice of five Australian cities and two New Zealand cities. 

The clinical/viva components are conducted in one city, usually in hospitals, over two to three days. The city rotates usually on a two-year cycle.

Registration and Examination Dates

Registration for the April/May 2023 Fellowship Exam will open on 5 January 2023 at 11:59 am AEDT and close on 27 January 2023 at 11:59 am. 

To register click on the 'Apply Now' button which will appear on the blue ribbon at the top of the main Fellowship Examination page.

 

Candidates in General Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery specialties will register an Expression of Interest (EOI) only. All other specialties will register and pay for the exam directly.

 

For General Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery:

 

  • Places may be limited in General Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery specialties for both the Wellington and Brisbane based exams.
  • SET 5 and above will be prioritised. All other candidates will be invited to register in order of the time of their EOIs.
  • EOI are made in the same way as registering for the exam via the "Apply Now" Button.

 

Expression of Interest: 11:59am Thursday 05 January - 11:59am Thursday 19 January

Invited to register and make payment: Friday 20 January - 11:59 am Friday 27 January

 

Those candidates who miss out on a place are encouraged to register in May for the September 2023 exam.
