Accept or decline an offer
Successful applicants will be advised to accept or decline their offer on RACS Unlock by the due date. In so doing, the recipient acknowledges and agrees to the Scholarships and Grants program conditions and recipient obligations and conditions stipulated on the each grant and scholarship webpage.
Successful Research applicants need to seek the support of their Head of Department (via RACS Unlock) when accepting their offer. In the case of the recipient being a project team, the chief investigator must complete the RACS Unlock acceptance form.
Learning and Development grants
The recipient will receive a request to provide RACS with a valid tax invoice for the annual value of the grant, which will be then paid by 1 March of the grant year. Recipients will be required in their end-of-year report to include details of how the funds were spent.
Payment of the annual value of the scholarship will be made to an administering institution on behalf of the recipient by 1 March in the scholarship year. The control of the expenditure will be governed by relevant policies and procedures of the administering institution. Recipients will be required in their end-of-year report to include details of how the funds were spent.
General payment information
Payment will be upheld when all Scholarships and grants program and opportunity-specific conditions and recipient obligations are satisfied. Recipients are advised to refer to a financial or taxation advisor to ascertain the taxability of the grant. Funds are to be expended in line with RACS travel and accommodation policy (PDF 78.29KB).
Commencement and tenureUnless otherwise stated on the respective program opportunity’s webpage, the period during which the scholarship or grant may be undertaken commences on 1 January following the year of application.
The tenure is one calendar year and activity must be completed by 31 December unless otherwise stated or negotiated. The exception to this is the multi-year Research opportunities, which may vary from two to three years.
Frequency of scholarships and grantsGenerally, subject to funding and travel restrictions, scholarships and grants are offered annually. Multi-year opportunities may be offered once over the period for which the opportunity extends – for example a two-year opportunity may be offered once every two years.
Multi-year Research scholarshipsMulti-year research opportunities are renewable annually for between two and three years. Renewal is subject to the recipient meeting the conditions of the Scholarships and Grants program, and opportunity-specific conditions and recipient obligations, as well as the recipient displaying satisfactory progress as determined from the mid-year scholarship report.
RACS may fund up to three years of a higher degree. Recipients who have completed a portion of their higher degree prior to receiving the scholarship may be funded for the remaining duration of their degree, providing it does not exceed three years.
Taking leave from the program
Recipients may apply for leave from a Research scholarship, or request an activity amendment, for reasons including, but not limited to, illness or injury, natural disasters and parental or family needs.

When accepting a research scholarship, or at any time during the scholarship’s tenure, recipients may apply to undertake the activity in a part-time capacity. For further information, please refer to the Part-time research scholarships policy.
Requests to apply to undertake a scholarship in a part-time capacity may be made to the Scholarships and Grants department.
Amending approved activity
Requests may be submitted to amend or defer approved activity for reasons including parental and family reasons or when the proposed activity is no longer feasible,
