• Who can apply?

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to enrolled in the SET Trainee Program and:
    - provide confirmation of eligibility for membership to Te Ohu Rata o Aotearoa The Māori Medical Practitioners Association (Te ORA) OR
    - provide confirmation of eligibility for membership to the Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association (AIDA)

    SET applicants may apply for this scholarship providing they meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Applying to the Scholarships and Grants Program webpage.

    $20,000 each (up to three scholarships given)
  • Activity
    The scholarship may be used to fund:

    - SET registration, course and examination fees
    - research projects
    - mentoring programs
    - travel, accommodation and registration fees to attend conferences in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand
    - other relevant professional development activities.
  • Selection
    The selection panel is comprised of the Chair of the Indigenous Health Committee and may include the Censor in Chief and members of the Board of Surgical Education and Training; Prevocational and Skills Education Committee; Fellowships Services Committee; Australian Indigenous Doctors Association (AIDA) and Te ORA.
  • Applications

    Your application is to include:

    - your career and employment details
    - your activity proposal including: how your activity will benefit your professional development; and contribute to improving Australian and/or Aotearoa New Zealand surgical standards and knowledge base
    - the expected outcomes of your activity
    - proposed costs
    - a statement addressing your current and future commitment to Māori or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
    - evidence of eligibility for membership to Te ORA or to AIDA
    - name and email addresses for two referees (recommenders) who will then receive an invitation to view parts of your online application and provide a recommendation. It is preferred that one of your referees is an AIDA or Te ORA representative or a community leader.
