Convened by Dr Adrian Fernandez and Clinical Associate Professor Sandra Krishnan, the theme of the day was 'Role of the Surgeon into the Future' where  artificial intelligence was explored as well the sub-themes of environmental stewardship and our climate change responsibilities within a clinical realm.

We had a high calibre of speakers presenting on the day, including:

    • Dr Cleo Kenington – Sustainability and perspectives of the future of sustainability for surgeons

    • Professor Russell Gruen – The future of healthcare – trends and disruptions

    • Associate Professor Tarik Sammour – Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Robotics in Colorectal Surgery

    • Dr Joseph Dusseldorp – Application of 3D Printing in Surgery

    • Dr Timothy Yeoh – 3D Hologram Technology in Surgery

    • Dr Pia Bernardi - Colorectal Surgeon, Member of RACS Sustainability Working Party

    • Dr Carolyn Cho - The Story of Goldilocks and other Innovations in Breast Cancer Surgery

    • Professor Lynne Madden - Sustainability in health care and the development of these objectives into the national medical school curriculum

    • Dr Michelle Atkinson - RACS NSW Chair

In addition, the line up of speakers was further strengthened with the last-minute addition to the program of Senator David Pocock. Senator Pocock was elected in May as the first independent Senator representing the ACT, where he ran on a largely pro-climate agenda and his presence at the meeting demonstrated a strong commitment to working with local surgeons and medical professionals to deliver practical solutions for health and the environment.
