Personal accounts of discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment

The Expert Advisory Group (EAG) contracted an independent agency to hear from people who had been exposed to discrimination, bullying and/or sexual harassment, who were willing to share their experiences but who did not want to make a formal complaint.

The confidential pathway enabled individuals to share their experiences, so the EAG could better understand the problem and can recommend ways to stop it.

Individuals - identified or confidentially - could tell their story by phone, Skype or face-to-face interview with a qualified and independent researcher, or completed an online questionnaire, which is now closed.

A report of this research identified systemic issues within the practice and culture of surgery that contributed to discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment.

A report of this research (PDF 923KB) is now published.

If you are a College Fellow, Trainee or International Medical Graduate seeking support, you can access the Surgeon Support Program.
