Surgical Skills Workshop

ACT Cadaver Surgical Exposure Course - Register Now!

18 May 2019 - ANU Anatomy Laboratory  

The aim of this course is to practise surgical exposure in common procedures related to your speciality in a non time-pressured environment.

The curriculum for General Surgery includes:

Entry into the abdomen

  • Hasson entry
  • Midline laparotomy
  • Kochers incision
  • Rooftop
  • McBurney/Lanz incision

Upper GI

  • Anatomy- hiatus, coeliac trunk, porta hepatis, biliary tract
  • Stomach- types of gastrectomy
  • Mobilisation- Kocherisation, Cattel-Braasch, Mattox manoeuvre
  • Duodenum- bleeding & perforation, pyloroplasty
  • Liver- mobilisation & packing in trauma
  • Gallbladder & biliary- open cholecystectomy & Pringle manoeuvre
  • Hepatico-jejunostomy
  • Spleen: Mobilisation and splenectomy
  • Pancreas- exposure and distal pancreatectomy

Colorectal

  • Right hemicolectomy
  • Hartmann Procedure/Anterior resection

An introductory Surgical Skills Workshop will be held 25 August 2018.

A Fellow is considered active if they are currently involved in any aspect of surgical activity that involves the use of surgical skills or knowledge gained through their surgical training. This extends to and is not exclusive of medico-legal work, research or supervision of Trainees and International Medical Graduates (IMGs).
