Australian health care system overview
The Australian health care system is designed to provide
universal access to public health care while giving individuals a
choice to obtain health care through the private sector. It
is designed to provide:
- health care and financial protection to all citizens
- a mix of private and public healthcare providers.
Public hospitals are funded by the government; private hospitals
are owned by for-profit or not-for-profit organisations, such as
corporate operators and private health insurance funds.
