The Find a Surgeon directory is a listing of active Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons who meet the requirements of the College's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program and have opted to be on the list. This list excludes retired or inactive Fellows.

Successful Progression to Interview

Interviews will be offered based on a ratio of four (4) applicants to (1) available accredited SET 1 post (i.e. a ratio of 4:1). Applicants will be invited to interview based on ranked order of the combined CV and referee report score.

Structured online referee reports

The applicant must provide at least one (1) and a maximum of three (3) supervising consultants who have had the greatest period of supervision for each surgical rotation listed on the applicaiton. Applicants must provide current contact details, including a valid e-mail address for each surgical consultant listed on the application. Applicants must nominate a minimum of seven (7) and a maximum of ten (10) supervising consultants to act as referees. 

Who can qualify as a referee?

  • Surgical Consultants
  • A minimum of two (2) referees must be Vascular Surgical Consultants

What is the time period from which a referee will be considered valid?

  • Referees must be from within the last five (5) years

How are referees selected?

  • The Board will select five (5) referees to be contacted as part of the selection process. The remaining referees will be considered alternative referees. 

How are the Structured Online Referee Reports collected and scored?

  • The Board will select five (5) referees to be contacted as part of the selection process. The remaining referees will be considered alternative referees. Reports completed by alternative referees will only be used as part of the selection process if the Board has not obtained at least four (4) valid reports by 11 May 2018. Where required the alternative referee reports will be used in order of their submission date. Where the Board has not obtained at least four (4) valid reports by 25 May 2018 the candidate will be deemed unsuitable. 

Semi-structured interview

Date of interviews: 22  June 2018

Date invitations to interview sent: 8 June 2018

The interviews for both Australian and New Zealand applicants will be held in Brisbane.

The format of the interviews will be as follows:

  • Six (6) interview panels
  • Minimum two (2) interviewers per panel

Applicants invited to interview will be required to provide identification.

Announcement of Offers

Announcement of Offers to successful applicants will be made on 23 July 2018.

Feedback to both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be provided in accordance with the Specialty Training Program Selection Regulations.


Notes:

1. Applicants are required to submit evidence of each rotation

2. Rotations must have been completed within the validity period specified.

3. Applicants are required to have spent the equivalent of 8 weeks full time in a dedicated intensive care unit; cardiac ICU will also be accepted.  HDU, CCU and Paediatric ICU rotations will not satisfy this requirement.
