When is the ASC?

10-14 May 2021.

Where will the RACS ASC be held?

The  2021 Congress will be delivered in a hybrid format—mostly virtual activities and events but with a physical event in Melbourne and other places around Australia and New Zealand between 10-14 May 2021.

We plan to have smaller hubs in other cities in Australia and New Zealand and it may be possible to attend physically in places like Darwin or Auckland and other towns where smaller groups can participate in sessions.

What is the theme of the Congress?

The Congress will have the theme of Celebrating the art of surgery in a time of disruption. It combines the science of medicine with the creative elements required to become a great surgeon.

The theme also celebrates the important contribution to the arts by surgeons, who continue to excel not only with a scalpel but also in music, painting, design, sculpture, writing and other creative pursuits.

Who will be speaking/what scientific content will be covered?

The 2021 organising committee is assembling a diverse array of leading international and national visitors and a fantastic opportunity to learn from colleagues across many different specialties and surgical topics. The provisional program is now available to download on the ASC website.

Can I submit an abstract?

Abstract submissions closed on 26 January 2021. Notifications to be sent in the first week of March. Refer to the abstract submission page for further details.

When does registration open and close? Is there an early bird incentive?

Registrations opened in December 2020. There are no early bird registration fees for 2021.

Is the event open to junior doctors and medical students, and do they get a special rate?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, numbers for onsite attendance at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in 2021 will be limited, as a result onsite registrations is only open to Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Virtual registration for the RACS ASC 2021  is open to all interested in surgery and there is a discounted registration for medical students.

What does it cost to attend the ASC?

  • Fellow onsite registration rate: $880.00AUD
  • Virtual registration rate: $330.00AUD
  • Medical student virtual registration rate: $50.00AUD

What happens if I’ve paid to attend in person and the physical congress is cancelled?

Fees will be automatically transferred to the virtual congress if the physical congress is cancelled.
