The Australian and New Zealand Surgical Skills Education and Training (ASSET) course provides an educational package of generic surgical skills that is a compulsory aspect of surgical training in Australian and New Zealand.
The ASSET course:
- runs over two days
- is conducted for 20 participants
- is taught by a faculty of surgeons (volunteers)
- is highly interactive and skills based
- includes formative assessment (successful completion of each session required)
Four modules are undertaken over two days:
- Suturing and dissection
- Tubular structures and electrosurgery
- Endoscopic surgery
- Musculoskeletal surgery
