John Buckingham Travelling
The late John Buckingham was a well-loved specialist breast
cancer surgeon who pioneered the sentinel node mapping technique.
He contributed significantly to BreastScreen Australia and was also
highly regarded in the international arena. In recognition of his
great love of teaching the John Buckingham Travelling Scholarship
has been established to encourage international exchange of
information concerning surgical science, practice and education. It
also aims to establish professional and academic collaborations and
friendships amongst Trainees.

Current RACS Australian and New Zealand Trainees
Note that this Scholarship is not available for SET
This Scholarship is offered for short term travel. Applicants
are required to attend the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Annual
Clinical Congress. In 2020 this Congress is being held on 4-8
October 2020 in Chicago, Il, USA.
It is mandatory for the successful recipients to also attend the
Annual General Meeting of the ANZ Chapter of the ACS which occurs
at the Annual Scientific Congress (ASC) of the RACS
in the year following the scholarship.
Applicants are encouraged to be a Member of or have applied for
Resident Membership of the ACS with
the intention of gaining Fellowship of the ACS in the future, and
for Membership of the ANZ Chapter of the ACS.
