The RACS Road
Trauma Committee was established in 1970 and trauma has been
promoted through advocacy, education and research.
In the 1970s and 1980s the focus was on road safety
- seat belt wearing,
- the 0.5 campaign,
- helmets for bicycle and motorbike riders,
- child restraints and
- zero alcohol levels for Learner and P Plate drivers.
In 1993 The Road Trauma Committee became the Trauma Committee,
considering all types of Trauma and increasing community awareness
of trauma issues.
