Overview

Mr LP Cheah MBBS (Hons 1st) FRACS MRCS (England) is a Specialist General Surgeon and Endoscopist. He graduated from the University of Melbourne as the top medical student in 1997 and completed his surgical training in both England and Australia. He has been working as a consultant general surgeon since 2006.

Mr LP Cheah regularly performs the following procedures:

• Hernia Repairs – Inguinal, Paraumbilical, Ventral, Incisional/Portsite (over 2000 cases)
• Colonoscopy (including treatment of haemorrhoids and other anal conditions) & gastroscopy (over 5000 cases) 
• Haemorrhoids - Banding
• Minor plastic surgical procedures including skin cancer excisions, local flap repairs, skin grafts; excision of lipomas/sebaceous cysts
• Hand surgery – Carpal tunnel, Dupuytren’s, Trigger finger
• Pilonidal sinus surgery – minimally invasive technique(own modification of the Bascom operation), Modified Karydakis
• Ingrown toenail surgery, Varicose vein surgery
• Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
• Vasectomy, circumcision, scrotal cyst, varicocele
• Cryotherapy for skin cancer and solar keratoses
• Breast surgery (lump, cyst, breast cancer, inverted nipple correction)
• Thyroid surgery
• Appendicectomy - Laparoscopic/Open, Drainage of abscess
• Capsule Endoscopy (Pill Camera Study) 

Problems Mr LP Cheah commonly sees include:

• Rectal bleeding including haemorrhoids; positive faecal occult blood test (FOBT); screening for bowel cancer; perianal pain; diverticular disease

• Skin cancers - squamous cell cancer, basal cell cancer, melanoma; precancerous skin condition such as solar keratoses and elastoses
• Skin lumps - lipoma, sebaceous cyst, ganglion, wart, painful corn, soft tissue tumour (dermatofibroma, neurofibroma, schwannoma, angioleiomyoma, syringoma, pilomatrixoma, Kaposi's sarcoma, Merkel cell cancer, sweat gland tumour, hidradenoma)
• Vasectomy, Circumcision, Scrotal cyst, Varicocele
• Ingrown toenail
• Breast lump, nipple discharge, breast pain/mastalgia, breast cancer
• Inverted nipple - Surgical eversion
• Thyroid - Goitre, nodule seen on ultrasound, tumour, thyroid cancer
• Varicose vein , leg ulcers, ischaemic toe

Please bring along all the relevant results of tests already performed (eg Ultrasound/CT films and copy of the radiology reports or blood test results). For patients who have seen Dr LP Cheah before, a new referral is needed if it has been more than 12 months since the date of the original referral letter.
