Assoc Prof Niruban 'Ruban' Thanigasalam

Overview

Dr Ruban Thanigasalam is a consultant Urological Surgeon. Dr Thanigasalam completed his medical degree (MB BS) at the University of London before moving to Sydney to commence his general surgical training. He then went on to complete his advanced surgical training in Urological Surgery in NSW, training at two of the largest teaching hospitals in Sydney, Royal North Shore and St. Vincent's Hospital.

Dr Thanigasalam completed a two year research fellowship at the internationally recognised Garvan Institute of medical research and the University of Sydney, where he was awarded his Masters of Surgery degree (MS). He was also honoured to receive the John Loewenthal medal by the University of Sydney for his pioneering work on clinical outcomes for patients undergoing treatment for localised prostate cancer.

Dr Ruban Thanigasalam sub-specialises in laparoscopic, robotic and laser prostate surgery. After being awarded the FRACS (Urology) by the Australian College of Surgeons, Dr Thanigasalam undertook a two year clinical fellowshop in Paris to further specialise in these areas. In Paris he was under the tutelage of the internationally renowned surgeon Monsieur Herve Baumert who is one of Europe's most highly regarded robotic and laparoscopic surgeons. Dr Thanigasalam had experience in more than 300 cases in Paris, with 100 of these cases being for laser prostate surgery.
