Prof Owen Ung and Prof Mahiban Thomas
On Saturday 17 May, the Northern Territory (NT) Committee hosted its first face-to-face event in more than 18 months—the NT Member Engagement Dinner—at Pee Wee’s at the Point in Darwin. The evening was a resounding success, drawing a huge turnout of Fellows and Trainees.
The event was made even more special by the presence of RACS president, Professor Owen Ung, who engaged informally with attendees throughout the night. His interest in the experiences of NT-based surgeons added a meaningful and personal touch that was appreciated by all.
Guests also benefited from a presentation by Bartons Chartered Accountants Wealth Advisors, who delivered an insightful and practical financial guidance tailored for medical professionals. Their support, along with the continued support of longstanding sponsor MIPS, ensured the event was delivered cost-neutrally—a testament to the collaborative spirit behind the evening.
With delicious food, picturesque views, and a strong sense of camaraderie in the air, the dinner marked a welcome return to in-person engagement for the NT surgical community. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees expressing for more events like this in the near future.
Sincere thanks to everyone who attended and supported the evening—especially those who travelled from outside Darwin to be part of it. Plans are underway for future opportunities to connect, and the NT Committee looks forward to welcoming even more members next time.
