Fellows, Trainees and special guests gathered at the iconic Adelaide Oval for the 2025 RACS SA, NT and WA Tri-state Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) held on 27 and 28 August.
More than 150 delegates attended the conference themed Standing on the Shoulders of Giants. The program featured a diverse mix of clinical updates, research presentations, and panel discussions.
Prof Owen Ung
Day one included sessions on surgical innovation, rural health, and leadership, while day two focused on trauma care, surgical education and global health. The theme was woven throughout, with speakers reflecting on the legacy of surgical pioneers and the importance of mentorship and knowledge-sharing. Among the many highlights were:
• a presentation on the College Centenary from RACS president Professor Owen Ung
• a powerful and personal presentation by RACS WA Chair Dr Amanda Foster on her gradual return to surgery following a life-threatening illness
• a reflection on the history of women in surgery in the Australian Defence Forces by Associate Professor Susan Neuhaus.
The 2026 Tristate ASM will be held in Darwin in August, and we’ll announce the dates soon.
