2026 | Volume 27 | Issue 4

RACS would like to extend its sincere thanks to all Fellows who stood for election to their local Australian states and territories and Aotearoa New Zealand (STANZ) Committees. Thank you also to our Fellows who participated in the election process by casting their votes. Your engagement helps ensure strong representation and governance across the College.

The STANZ Committees for 2026–2027 were ratified during June Council Week, marking the beginning of a new term for Fellows who have committed their time and expertise to supporting their local surgical communities.

While much of their work is not highly visible, STANZ Committee members play an essential role within the College. Supported by their local RACS offices, committee members:
•    represent the local Fellowship in a range of forums
•    maintain relationships with government and other stakeholders
•    provide advice and recommendations to Council on local issues and assume responsibility for those local issues
•    support and nurture medical students, junior doctors, Trainees, SIMGs and Fellows in their career development.

These responsibilities require significant commitment and are often undertaken alongside demanding clinical, teaching and leadership responsibilities.

We also acknowledge and thank the committee members who have concluded their terms. Their contributions, advocacy and stewardship have helped strengthen the College and support the surgical community across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

If you are interested in contributing to your profession and local surgical community, nominations for the STANZ Committees open in February every year. We encourage interested Fellows to consider putting themselves forward. Serving on a STANZ Committee is recognised as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity and attracts CPD points.

We encourage our Fellows, SIMGs and Trainees to contact their local committee regarding advocacy, governance, engagement or other matters affecting the profession.

The strength of our College depends on Fellows who are willing to contribute beyond their clinical practice. To all who have served, voted and nominated—thank you.
