RACS Skills Training faculty are the backbone of surgical education, helping prepare the next generation of surgeons through hands-on teaching, mentorship and leadership. They play a vital role in delivering five key courses: ASSET, ATLS, CCrISP, CLEAR and TIPS. Together, these programs build technical expertise, trauma management capability, critical thinking, patient-centred communication and professional practice.
Becoming a Skills Training instructor is more than a teaching opportunity. Faculty members develop their own educational and leadership skills, expand professional networks, earn CPD points, and collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
"It is a huge privilege to be able to help shape our future surgeons. Watching training doctors move from uncertainty and anxiety and then witnessing the lightbulb moment as they understand and grasp a skill is so rewarding. Every course I teach in I learn from them. Being able to see our future workforce become empowered is inspiring.”
Dr. Rosalynd Pochin FRACS, CCrISP and TIPS faculty
