Dr Chamila 'Chandika' Wewelwala

Overview

Dr Chandika Wewelwala is a Breast and General surgeon who specializes in the management of complex breast diseases as well as a variety of general surgical conditions. He has expertise in the latest surgical techniques for the treatment of breast cancer and also offers implant based breast reconstruction as part of breast cancer treatment.

He completed his accredited surgical training at Monash Health Victoria and obtained the fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2020. Following this, he has done further 2 years of subspecialized training under the BreastSurgANZ, which is the peak body governing accreditation and training of breast surgeons in Australia and New Zealand. During his first year of post fellowship training he worked at the Auckland City hospital New Zealand where he had excellent exposure to a variety of breast surgeries as well as the opportunity to develop expertise in extensive general surgical procedures including laparoscopic procedures. He also developed skills in managing a variety of skin cancers during this period. He then returned to Monash health as a Breast surgical oncology fellow to complete the accredited training in breast surgery and gained expertise in complex breast surgical procedures and is now able to offer the latest in the surgical management of breast cancer as well as other breast diseases. 

In addition to breast surgery, Dr Chandika has expertise in managing general surgical conditions such as hernias, gallbladder disease, pilonidal disease and a variety of skin lumps and bumps. He is skilled in laparoscopic procedures for the treatment of hernia and gallblader. He also has recognition by the Gastroenterology society of Australia as a certified colonoscopist.

Dr Chandika is appointmented as a specialist Breast and General surgeon at Monash health. He operates at Mulgrave private hospital, St John of God private hospital and Waverley private hospital.
