Dr Natasha Van Zyl
Overview
Natasha van Zyl completed her medical degree at the University of Cape Town in 1993. Her surgical training was undertaken in Melbourne and she was awarded a fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2005. She is an active member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Australian Hand Surgery Society and the International Spinal Cord Society.
Natasha holds a public appointment at Austin Health. She is also a surgeon for the Victorian Spinal Cord Service (VSCS) which offers tendon and nerve tranfer surgery to spinal cord injured people.
Natasha has special interests in reconstructive breast surgery and upper limb re-animation - which maximises hand and arm function after nerve, brachial plexus or spinal cord injury and also aids people with spasticity as a result of cerebral palsy, stroke or head injury. Natasha has extensive experience in skin cancer surgery (melanoma, BCC, SCC, skin grafts and flaps), general hand surgery (Dupuytren’s, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger and mucous cysts), emergency plastic surgery (hand fractures, burns and lacerations), general plastic surgery (otoplasty, abdominoplasty and breast reduction) and foot drop correction after nerve injury stroke or brain injury.
