Prof Jeffrey 'Jeff' Hamdorf
Overview
Jeff is an Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon based in Nedlands.
His surgical interests are in upper GI surgery including laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding and sleeve gastrectomy for the management of morbid obesity, and diagnostic and therapeutic laparoscopic anti reflux surgery and general surgery.
He established Western Surgical Health, Perth which is regarded as a leader in the team approach to the management of patients with morbid obesity.
Jeff was recently awarded Membership in the General Division of the Order of Australia in the 2019 Australia Day Honours’ list. This acknowledges and rewards Professor Hamdorf’s significant contribution to Medical Education and all aspects of Bariatric Surgery.
He has many contemporary research and training interests both nationally and internationally. He was the inaugural Professor of Medical Education at The University of Western Australia (UWA), is the Director of CTEC, a world class skills training centre and is UWA’s Professor of Surgical Education.
He is a founding Director of the Bariatrics Australia Research Centre and is one of the most experienced Bariatric Surgeons in Perth.
He is a Board Member of ANZMOSS, the Australian & New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society, chairing the Fellow Training Committee and represents the Asia Pacific region on the Scientific Committee of IFSO, the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders.
