Prof Michael Vallely

Overview

Michael Vallely is a Professor in The Department of Surgery, at Macquarie University. He has a public appointment at The St George Hospital and Private appointments at St George Private, Macquarie University and The Northern Beaches Hospital. He is an Australian trained academic cardiothoracic surgeon with interests in elderly, complex and high-risk patients, including the application of off-pump, minimal access and transcatheter techniques. Other interests include value based healthcare, integrated healthcare, medical technology investing and transcatheter medical technology, including the development of novel prostheses. He has previous appointments at THe Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospitals in the USA.

Professor Vallely has over 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals and three published book chapters. He has developed and participated in several first in man procedures and first in man trials and is the senior author on publications that have contributed to changes in international treatment guidelines. He sits on several international industry advisory boards, is a Director at Cordis Asset Management Pty Ltd and has been a Senior Advisor with The Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey 7 Co.
