Frequency of scholarships and grants
The number of scholarships and grants offered annually varies depending on funding requirements, strategic priorities and where guidelines stipulate a scholarship is not offered if it has an incumbent recipient. A number of scholarships and grants are funded through the Foundation for Surgery's return on investments which may provide greater returns in some years over others.
The shortlist of scholarships and grants on offer in an upcoming application round is available on the following webpages:

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion
We encourage applications from Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Māori and female applicants as we support RACS’ focus on:
- recognising that people can experience disadvantage
- continuing and enhancing initiatives designed to increase the participation of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Māori doctors in the practice of surgery
- removing barriers to the participation of women in surgery. To reduce the risk of bias and strive for equitable access to scholarships and grants, the program includes a number of bias mitigation measures including:
- providing reviewers (selection panel members) with an online e-module mitigating bias in selection processes
- directing recommenders to use 'they' or the applicant in their free text response (this is checked by staff before the review process)
- de-identifying applications for review (by selecting to 'show' and 'hide' application forms)
- providing a conflict of interest process within RACS Unlock whereby a reviewer can elect to be unassigned from scoring an application
- hiding recommenders' names to reduce the risk of bias from the reviewer knowing (or not knowing) a recommender
- providing a standardised recommendation form. -
