Research scholarships as listed below are available for application for 2024 activity.

As our scholarships support the development of a diverse and equitable surgical workforce, we encourage applications from Māori, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and female applicants.
Please note: as the Scholarships and Grants Program has been impacted by a negative investment return, limited scholarships and grants are being offered for 2024 activity.
John Mitchell Crouch Fellowship
Purpose: Supports a Fellow who is making an outstanding contribution to the advancement of surgery or to fundamental scientific research
Value: AUD $170,000
Who can apply? RACS Fellows (Fellowship within 15 years)
Ian and Ruth Gough Surgical Education Scholarship
Purpose: Supports the recipient to become an expert surgical educator
Value: AUD$15,000
Who can apply? RACS Fellows, SIMGs and SET Trainees. SET applicants are ineligible
Military Surgery Research Scholarship
Purpose: Supports a Fellow or Trainee to undertake Combat Casualty Care Resuscitation research with the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS), Maryland, USA
Value: USD $46,000 stipend + USD $4,000 travel allowance
Who can apply? RACS Fellows and SET Trainees. SIMGs (inc. those who are SET Trainees) and SET applicants are ineligible
SAGES ASERNIP-S Evidence Guidance Research Scholarship
Purpose: Supports a surgeon, Trainee or junior doctor who wishes to take time away from their clinical position to participate in systematic review research and development of CPGs in Adelaide
Value: up to AUD $132,00 ($66,000 stipend per annum x up to 2 years). 50% is co-funded by SAGES
Who can apply? RACS Fellows, SIMGs, SET Trainees, Australian-based junior doctors and internationally-based SAGES members (and prospective members)
Tenure: up to two years
Tour de Cure Cancer Research Scholarship
Purpose: Supports a cancer research project in Australia
Value: AUD $112,500 stipend + $12,500 dept maintenance (including an institution co-contribution of $25,000)
