Provide timely and high-quality neurosurgery services to patients at Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals.
Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospital serves as the principal tertiary hospital in the region, offering a comprehensive range of referral services across all specialist areas to Darwin, the Top End of the NT, Western Australia and South-East Asia.
In the role of Specialist Clinician Neurosurgery, your primary focus will be to provide care and advice on the management of patients with neurosurgery conditions to colleagues both within and outside the speciality.
Your key duties will include the management of patient flow and conducting regular inpatient ward rounds and outpatient sessions, participating in routine and emergency after-hours care on a roster basis, providing specialist opinion to referring medical practitioners and engaging in continuous medical education including undergraduate and post graduate teaching, professional development, peer review, staff mentoring and training, and contributing to a culture of high-performing teams. You will also be responsible for ensuring a strategic approach is taken to the development of contemporary human resource practices including workplace health and safety, and equal employment opportunities.
You will also be required to participate in the Department’s 24-hr roster to ensure the proper functioning of the service.
To be successful you require eligibility for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia, hold a current Fellowship of a relevant Medical College, and be recognised as a professional consultant in the provision of Neurosurgery services. A commitment to improving Indigenous health and the ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work environment is essential. To be successful at the Senior level you would need to demonstrate at least 6 years’ service in medical practice as a Specialist Medical Officer.
Applicants will be assessed at both the Senior Medical Officer levels and offers will be made based on the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.
