He explained to Dr Reti about the differences in resources across the four major trauma centres of Auckland, Waikato, Wellington and Christchurch. He also pointed to research that showed the paediatric trauma mortality rate in Aotearoa is double that of Victoria, Australia. 

Dr Wakeman and the AoNZ Trauma Committee are calling for a review of the inequities between regions and for hospitals to be adequately staffed and resourced. The goal is to build first-class trauma services in the four major hubs and, once that is achieved, to focus on improving trauma care in the regional centres.
