RACS Indigenous Health Committee has produced a statement, Systemic racism as inaction in the face of need, calling for action on changing the eligibility age for Māori for the national bowel cancer screening programme.
People aged between 60 – 74 are eligible for the programme, currently being rolled out around the country. Cancer data shows clearly that Māori have a higher incidence of bowel cancer at ages 50 to 59 compared to non-Māori.
