This position, of one to two years duration, seeks to provide trainees and junior surgeons with a direct, in-depth experience of surgical publishing in Australia and New Zealand with a view to encouraging ongoing scholarship and involvement in academic surgery.
The Editorial Fellow will be an honorary member of the Editorial Board, attending Editorial Board meetings and other relevant meetings (e.g. the RACS Annual Scientific Congress or Specialty Society Meetings). Some financial support may be available to attend meetings.
Working closely with members of the Editorial Board, the Editorial Fellow will be introduced to a broad range of relevant experiences available within surgical publishing, from initial commissioning of articles to post-publication social media, and will be closely involved with any journal projects (e.g., a Special Issue, a conference presentation and/or co-authorship of an editorial or article for publication in the ANZ Journal of Surgery).
The Editorial Fellow will receive training in peer review across a range of submissions, and conducting peer review, will be a core, ongoing activity in this appointment.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- An Australasian candidate based in Australia or New Zealand
- A RACS SET trainee and/or RACS Fellow within 5 years of award
- Academic authorship experience (at least one journal publication)
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Peer review experience
