The role of the Surgical Sciences and Clinical Examinations (SSE&CE) Committee Chair is to facilitate the on-going development and delivery of the Generic Surgical Sciences Examination (GSSE), the Clinical Examination (CE) and the Specialty Specific Examinations (SSE) for Cardiothoracic Surgery, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery.
The Chair oversees the above examinations, providing a link between Fellows and other Subject Matter Experts responsible for creating and standard setting the above examinations, RACS Examinations staff, the Board of Surgical Education and Training and the Prevocational and Skills Education Committee.
Expressions of interest are called during the final three-year term of the current Chair, allowing for succession planning. During this period, the successful applicant will be appointed as the Incoming Chair of the SSE & CE Committee and will exercise all powers and duties of the Chair when requested by the Chair or when the Chair is incapacitated.
