Its role is:

  • To advise RACS on the scope and nature of surgical practice in trauma services in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand
  • To be responsible for the full range of issues relating to development and implementation of policies and position statements on optimal trauma management, prevention of injury, care of trauma patients, workforce and education.
  • Collaborate, engage and consider the interests of key stakeholders including surgical specialty and sub-specialty groups, hospitals and area health networks and regulatory agencies on trauma care, prevention and advocacy.
  • To advise and assist RACS with workforce issues relating to the provision of trauma surgical services including recruitment, retention, training and support for surgeons working in trauma services in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • To foster research in education and training of trauma surgeons.

 

The Committee meets in February, May, August and November each year. Members can serve a maximum of 9 years on the Committee. Those successful applicants will join the Committee from the May 2026 meeting.

 

The position available on the Committee is:

  • One representative with expertise in road safety policy and advocacy (data analytics)
  • One representative with expertise in Trauma Quality Improvement (ANZTQIP)
