Miss Melanie Walker

Overview

Melanie Walker is an experienced specialist breast surgeon in Melbourne, in private practice and holds public VMO appointments at Alfred Health (Clinical Lead Breast Surgery) and Monash Health, as well as BreastScreen Victoria.

Melanie is the President of Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand (BreastSurgANZ) and is committed to ensuring standards in the training and the credentialling of breast surgeons.  Melanie is a founding member BreastSurgANZ, having served on its Council since the Society’s inception in 2010.  She previously chaired the Education, Training & Research Committee and served as Chair of the Oncoplastic Committee 2018-2019, Deputy Chair 2017-2018 & was Convenor of the Oncoplastic Workshops 2017-2019.  She serves as one of the Clinical Leads on the Australian Breast Device Registry (ABDR).

Melanie graduated from Monash University in 1994 and trained in general surgery at the Alfred Hospital, obtaining her FRACS in 2002.  She then undertook a further three years training in breast surgery in the United Kingdom, training at the Edinburgh Breast Unit and undertaking an Oncoplastic Fellowship year at the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit, Glasgow, where she developed her special interest in oncoplastic breast surgery and breast ultrasound.
