Assoc Prof Laurence Harewood
Overview
Associate Professor Laurence Harewood has over 40 years experience in Urology. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Urology Department of the Department of Surgery, University of Melbourne. He is the Director of the Urology and Vascular Clinical Institute of Epworth Health Care. His practice was in general urology including Cancers of the Kidney and Prostate, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia treatment, Kidney stone disease and diseases of the genitalia. He had a special interest in the management of early stage Prostate Cancer, and had a particular expertise and experience in Robotic Surgery. From 2005 he carried out over 1000 Robotic procedures including Robotic Radical Prostatectomy for Prostate Cancer, Robotic Partial Nephrectomy and Robotic Radical Nephrectomy for Cancer of the Kidney.
Assoc Professor Harewood has discontinued clinical practice with the exception of NanoKnife Irreversible Electroporation for localised Cancer of the Prostate that he carries out in conjunction with Mr Dixon Woon.
Prof Harewood currently conducts Medico Legal assessments for the TAC and Workcover, and provides Medico-legal opinions in negligence cases that involve urology.
Prof Harewood is also active with the Whitten Foundation in carrying out clinical research into prostate cancer. He is currently one of the team carrying out the CONFIRM study looking at the role of PSMA PET scanning in patients on active surveillance for low grade prostate cancer.
