Mr Benjamin 'Ben' Dunne

Overview

Ben is a specialist Cardiothoracic surgeon whose main interest is Thoracic Surgery. His main clinical appointment is at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Ben’s work includes all aspects of Adult Thoracic Surgery including care of patients with malignancies of the chest.  He is also dedicated to clinical governance, leadership, education, and research with over 50 scientific publications and presentations, and has authored 2 chapters in major thoracic surgical textbooks.

Ben is originally from Dublin and studied Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.  His national and international surgical training included Royal Perth Hospital (WA), Westmead Children’s Hospital (NSW), Princess Alexandra Hospital (Qld) followed by a 2-year Fellowship in Lung Transplantation, Advanced Thoracic Surgery, Minimally Invasive & Robotic Thoracic Surgery at Toronto General Hospital (Canada).

He has recently returned to Australia and joined the team at Royal Melbourne Hospital/ Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre working as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive and patient centred care.

Ben performs all aspects of Thoracic Surgery such as advanced bronchoscopy and airway intervention including stenting, chest wall surgery, and pulmonary resections including VATS and robotic lobectomy.
