Dr Damien Phillips
Overview
Damien Phillips is an Australian educated and trained Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon with advanced training and specialist in a wide range of both adult and paediatric ENT conditions.
He completed a Bachelor of Science at Monash University and postgraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery University of Queensland before returning to Victoria to undertake advanced surgical training in Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgery. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).
Damien later completed a further Clinical Fellowship in the United Kingdom at St George’s Hospital in London in ENT and Head & Neck Surgery in both Adult and Paediatric ENT. Following this, Damien gained further experience as a visiting fellow at internationally renowned centres including Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Ohio, USA.
He returned to Melbourne permanently in 2012, working at the Royal Children's Hospital and other major hospitals.
Damien is passionate about education, training and mentoring junior doctors. He is actively involved in surgical training in Paediatric ENT, Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the Royal Children’s Hospital and has been Head of the ENT Surgery Department since 2021. He is widely published and has presented lectures at both national and international conferences and seminars.
He has a special interest in paediatric ENT conditions, including hearing loss, speech delay, glue ear treatment, and the management of snoring and sleep apnoea in both children and adults. Damien has also been instrumental in advancing microscopic minimal access sinus surgery techniques designed to avoid nasal packing and improve post-operative recovery for patients undergoing sinus surgery.
Outside of medicine, Damien is happily married, with two teenage children. He enjoys playing basketball, skiing with his son, and volunteering with the Surf Life Saving Club as a nipper's trainer during the summer months.
