Dr David 'David Lan' Lan Cheong Wah
Overview
Dr Lan is a compassionate and dedicated Australian trained Breast, Endocrine and General Surgeon. He graduated from Monash University (VIC) with Distinction and completed his advanced surgical training across major tertiary hospitals in Melbourne. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery in 2022.
He undertook a year of breast and general surgery fellowship at the University Hospital Geelong (VIC) and was subsequently selected for the prestigious BreastSurg ANZ Post-Fellowship Training Program. He completed a further two years of advanced fellowships in breast, endocrine and general surgery at the Auckland City Hospital (New Zealand) and Nepean Hospital (NSW).
He is currently a breast, endocrine and general surgeon at The Mater Hospital Springfield and has his private practice at The Mater Private Hospital Springfield and Sunnybank Private Hospital.
Dr Lan is a full member of the Breast Surgeons of Australia & New Zealand (BreastSurg ANZ) and an associate member of the Australiana & New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons (ANZES). Moreover, he is a certified member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) and General Surgeons Australia (GSA).
His breast surgical practice encompasses the management of benign and malignant breast diseases with particular expertise in oncoplastic and oncological breast surgery, therapeutic and preventative or risk-reducing surgeries, lipofilling, immediate and delayed breast implant reconstructions, and local breast perforator flap reconstructions such as LICAP and AICAP flaps reconstructions.
In endocrine surgery, Dr Lan performs thyroid and parathyroid surgeries with intra-operative nerve integrity monitoring to optimise nerve preservation.
He also provides a comprehensive range of general surgical procedures, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy and hernia repair, excision of skin cancers, and surgical management of lymph node pathology. Dr Lan performs diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Dr Lan maintains an active commitment to clinical research with multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations delivered at national and international scientific meetings. He has a strong interest in medical education and has contributed extensively to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across several prestigious institutions such as Monash University, University of Melbourne and University of Sydney.
