Dr Richard Shaw

Overview

Dr Richard Shaw is an Australian and internationally trained neurosurgeon treating the full spectrum of brain, spine and peripheral nerve conditions.

Renowned for his subspecialty expertise in complex brain and skull base tumours, Dr. Shaw is highly trained in advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques, endoscopic skull base approaches, and stereotactic radiosurgery. This broad skill set allows him to develop truly comprehensive, individualised treatment plans for patients with all types of benign and malignant brain tumours.

Dr Shaw’s subspecialty expertise also includes the comprehensive treatment of cerebrovascular disorders including brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, Moyamoya disease and carotid stenosis.

In 2019, Dr Shaw was selected as the top candidate in Australia and New Zealand to commence advanced neurosurgical training. He completed his neurosurgical training across some of the largest and most prestigious neurosurgical centres in NSW including: Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Westmead Hospital and the Children's Hospital at Westmead, John Hunter and John Hunter Children's Hospitals and Liverpool Hospital. He was subsequently granted fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. During this time, Dr Shaw also served on the neurosurgical Surgical Education and Training board as its' sole trainee representative in 2022.

After obtaining his neurosurgery fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Dr Shaw undertook further advanced clinical fellowship training in skull base and cerebrovascular surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, one of the largest academic institutions in North America.
