Dr Richard Shaw

Overview

Dr Richard Shaw is an Australian-trained neurosurgeon specialising in disorders of the brain, spine and peripheral nerves. Dr Shaw has a particular subspecialty interest in skull base brain tumours and cerebrovascular disorders as well as minimally invasive techniques for the spine and peripheral nerves. 

Dr Shaw completed his medical degree at the University of New South Wales where he graduated with distinction. During this time, he also completed a Bachelor of Science (Medicine) Honours degree, graduating with first-class honours. While working as a junior doctor at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, Dr Shaw continued to foster his interest in neurosurgery by completing a Master of Surgery at the University of Sydney. 

Dr Shaw was selected as the top candidate in Australia and New Zealand to commence advanced neurosurgical training in 2020. He completed his neurosurgical training across some of the largest and most prestigious neurosurgical centres in NSW including: Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Liverpool Hospital, John Hunter and John Hunter Children's Hospitals, Westmead Hospital and the Children's Hospital at Westmead. During this time, Dr Shaw also served on the neurosurgical Surgical Education and Training board as the sole trainee representative in 2022. 

Dr Shaw received his fellowship in neurosurgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2025 and currently works as a consultant neurosurgeon at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Chris O'Brien Lifehouse in Sydney.
