Dr Ross Calopedos
Overview
Dr. Ross Calopedos is a board-certified urologist specialising in men's health, with a focus on the treatment of erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, minimally invasive solutions for benign prostate problems, and advanced care for renal tract calculi.
After completing his urological training in Australia, Dr. Calopedos pursued additional expertise in robotic-assisted surgery at Macquarie University Hospital and undertook advanced training in PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The high prevalence of stone disease in Malaysia has fostered advanced techniques that are less common in Australia, providing Dr. Calopedos with unique skills to offer more effective and comprehensive treatments for complex cases.
To help men with bladder issues, Dr. Calopedos further enhanced his expertise by training with Dr. Dean Elterman in Toronto, a world leader in minimally invasive treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), allowing him to adopt cutting-edge techniques for improving patient outcomes with reduced recovery time.
With a deep commitment to sexual medicine and restoring sexual function after trauma, surgery, or disease, Dr. Calopedos recognised the lack of infrastructure to adequately treat sexual dysfunction in Australia. Determined to address this gap, he embarked on multiple international fellowships, working alongside some of the world’s foremost penile implant surgeons and andrologists. His training has included mentorship from global leaders such as Dr. Ignacio Moncada and Dr. Juan I. Martínez-Salamanca in Madrid, Professor David Ralph in London, Professor Koenraad van Renterghem in Belgium, and Dr. Paul Perito in Miami. These experiences, acquired across different regions and hospitals, have equipped Dr. Calopedos with unparalleled expertise in penile implant surgery and sexual medicine, enabling him to bring cutting-edge knowledge and advanced techniques to his practice in Australia.
Dr. Calopedos’s research is equally distinguished, with extensive publications on prostate cancer, sexual health, and andrology. In 2023, Dr. Calopedos was awarded the SMSNA Research Award for his groundbreaking work on the anatomy of the penile suspensory ligament (PSL). His findings challenge the traditional understanding of penile lengthening procedures, demonstrating that division of the suspensory ligament can lead to significant biomechanical consequences, including instability, pain and severe sexual dysfunction. This research underscores the importance of accurate anatomical knowledge in ensuring the safety and efficacy of any surgical intervention.
Dr. Calopedos’s dedication to patient safety, his emphasis on preserving function, and his innovative research have earned him recognition both nationally and internationally. His work is reshaping the field of prosthetic urology, advocating for safer, non-invasive techniques that prioritise both aesthetic outcomes and functional integrity.
As an active member of leading urological organizations, including USANZ, AUA, and SMSNA, Dr. Calopedos is committed to advancing urology through research, education, and patient care. He frequently presents his findings at global conferences, contributing to the ongoing development of urological practices and helping men regain their confidence and quality of life.
Through his clinical expertise, cutting-edge research, and compassionate patient care, Dr. Ross Calopedos is at the forefront of modern urology, dedicated to improving sexual health outcomes and offering men the most advanced treatment options available.
