Dr Susan Velovski

Overview

Dr Sue Velovski is a Specialist General Surgeon working in the Northern Rivers of NSW, predominantly Surgical Oncology -bowel, breast ,melanoma, thyroid, and parathyroid surgery . Sue has also maintained surgical skills in  trauma surgery, particularly important for work in Rural & Regional Australia

Sue grew up in Newcastle and trained at the University of Newcastle. She was encouraged by her mentors to consider a career in rural/regional surgery and global health.Sue understands the inequities in health care amongst rural and regional Australia and, in her role, continues to advocate for 'safe appropriate surgery locally and globally' for all patients irrespective of race, financial status or geographical locale.Sue has been actively involved in surgery and surgical education at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, both in Australia, and overseas in South Africa, PNG and Timor Leste.

 Dr Velovski is the elected Specialist member of NSW Rural Doctors Association, is a Specialist  Board Member of Rural Doctors Association of Australia, and was elected to the Natural Disaster Emergency Response Group in 2022 after the devasting floods that affected Northern NSW. Sue is also a clinical  advisory Member with MIGA

Dr Velovski was awarded Rural Doctor of the Year in 2022 for her ongoing support of her community, cancer patients ,training and teaching of students ,GPs and hospital staff

 In 2023, Dr Velovski was awarded the NSW Rural Scholarship for Women in Leadership She has also been awarded the NSW Womens Contributions Awards by Resilience Together Association NSW for her efforts  supporting Womens Health

Sue likes to keep fit and active via activities including swimming,walking and running , keeping in contact with family and friends and enjoys photography especially travel and nature photography in her spare time.
